ENGINE STAMPING INFORMATION The Engine Plants will stamp a source production date and type designation on the engine as shown below 4 Cylinder 140 C I D stamped opposite the number three cylinder on the ri ht side of the case on the left side of the pad as close to the rear as possib e All 6 Cylinder stamped on crankcase on right hand side of engine to rear of distributor All 8 Cylinder except Mark IV stamped on top front of right hand bank of cyl inder and case as close as possible to upper end of pad All Mark IV stamped on top right hand bank of cylinder and case as close as possible to lower end of pad F will designate Flint Motor V Flint Engine T J Tonawanda S Saginaw Parts K GM of Canada LTD M GM of Mexico and H Hydramatic The four digit number following the source designation will indicate the calendar month and day produced Of the four digits the last two will always indicate the day VIZ 01 for the first day of the month 02 for the second day etc The two digits preceding the date produced will indicate the month VIZ 01 for January O2 for February and 12 for December EXAMPLE January lst would read 0101 A standard lHA00 series type if built in Tonawanda on January lst would be stamped TO101CLW The first character of the type designation will always be C or Z for Passenger and T or A for Truck Note The engine plants are to stamp the serial pad of all current model service engines with the source production date and the same type designation as stamp ed on the comparable production engine On Irrigation engines a four digit sequential serial number beginning with 1001 for each engine will be stamped ad acent to the engine date stamp and will identify each Irrigation engine bui t 1988 GENERAL MOTORS SERVICE PARTS OPERATIONS CHEVROLET l7F 38 REV 6 88
