AIR INJECTOR REACTOR SYSTEM 6T 4 DRIVE PULLEY NOTE Use anti seize compound on threads of Replace e I the tube to exhaust manifold connections m n Remove drive belt as outlined above then replace drive pulley Install and adjust drive belt as outlined above CHECK VALVE PUMP PULLEY The check valve should be inspected whenever the R P pump outlet tube is disconnected from the check Hold pump pulley from turning by compressing drive valve or whenever check valve failure is suspected belt then loosen pump pulley bolts A pump that had become inoperative and had shown Remove drive belt as outlined above then remove indications Oi having exhaust gases in the pump pump pulley would indicate check valve failure Install pump pulley with retaining bolts hand tight Orally blow through the check valve toward tube Install and adjust drive belt as outlined above than attempt to Suck back through check vaivs Held Pump Pulley f1 0m t 1 i g by 0mP1 SSi g drive Flow should only be in one direction toward the belt then torque pump pulley bolts to 25 ft lbs tube Recheck drive belt tension and adjust if required Replacement TUBE AND HOSE Disconnect pump outlet tube at check valve Remove check valve from tube being careful not to bend or inepeeiien Fig 4 twist tube Inspect all hoses for deterioration or holes Inspect all tubes for cracks or holes Check all hose and tube connections Check all tube and hose routing Interference may MIXTURE CONTROL VAT VE cause wear I Inspecnon if leak ls ssipeczed 0 the iressuretslge Oighe Sys Check condition and routing of all lines especially m Y BS we S B P S the signal line A defective signal or outlet line win sure side the connections should be checked for cause maifunctiomng Of the mixture control valve leak Wiglb 1SO3 l fwat9r fSO ut n wth the pump An engine with a rough idle indicates the mixture mmnmg u GS W1 Orm 1 3 G ems S control valve may be leaking To check disconnect Repiqcement outlet and signal lines at the engine and plug open To replace any hose and or tube note routing then ings If engine idle Smeeths out replace the valve remove h05e s and or tube g 3 5 required O EXh3 l1St system back fire that can be attributed to th d t lf t f h 1 CAUTION The hoses of the Air Injection Re gongisgrvgg isghgtlgcgeeieglggdunc mn O t B Va ve actor System are a special material to with stand high temperature No other type hose Rep 6m I Should be substituted Disconnect the signal line and air outlet hoses then th 1 f th 1 NOTE The left eee eight eeme eeuet eeeee 1 viivteinrgti 21 Ztg ZZ are retained to the pump housing with a clamp met air Outlet and Signal une hoses and use O ring seals CAUTION Mixt I g Q Install 1 W hOS S 3 Hd Or tube s routlng them as 1131 in a garasgg t hOI1 Ql tS1 T l pvheln renhaved ti particular requirements of various engines lg Bn 2 eeeeee 1OnS therefore be sure to install the correct valve B AIR INJECTION TUBE A A Inspection Fig 5 There is no periodic service or inspection for the air injection tubes yet whenever the exhaust mani L folds are removed inspect the air injection tubes B AIR INLET for carbon build up and warped or burnt tubes AIR INJECTION TUBE Remove any carbon build up with a wire brush Warped or burnt tubes require exhaust manifold gis I I I W replacement If II mA B B A A AIR INJECTION PUMP Inspection Fig 5 Air Injection Tube Check for proper drive belt tension CORVAIR SHOP MANUAL SUPPLEMENT
