i BODY CAULKING COMPOUND I t SEALING TAPE Fig 10 43 Wafer Deflector Sealing Along Retaining Slot Area Removal Complete 1 Remove door trim assembly 2 Remove strips of waterproof body tape securing lower corners of water deflector see fig 10 44 3 Carefully break cement bond securing upper corners of water deflector to door inner panel Then while holding string located within sealer againsl water deflector carefully disengage edges of de flector from door Exercise care so as not to teai water deflector NOTE If necessary a flat bladed tool such as a putty knife can be used to help break cement bond 4 Disengage lower edge of water deflector fron retaining slot in door inner panel and remove water deflector 1 Installation 1 Inspect water deflector and where necessary repair any tears or holes with waterproof bod3 tape applied to both sides of deflector In addition if bond between polyethylene and deflector papej has been torn cut or damaged apply waterproo body tape to both sides of deflector over damage area to prevent water from wicking on uncoatec side of deflector paper 2 If new water deflector is to be installed use olc water deflector as a template trim new deflecto to proper size and cut holes for door inside hard ware In addition clean off old cement from doo inner panel and apply a continuous bead of bod caulking compound approximately 3 1 diame e BODY CAULKING y p I COMPOUND D o WATER PROOF I SEALING TAPE i III I I FRONT DOOR I o BODY CAULKING COMPOUND lli WATER PROOF SEALING TAPE I i 1 REAR DOOR BODY CAl1LKING COMPOUND III w VIEW B Fig 10 44 Door Panel Sealing ter to door inner panel along line contacted by front and rear edges of water deflector see fig 10 44 3 If necessary seal all arm rest screw attaching holes with body caulking compound 4 Position water deflector to door inner panel with I polyet nylene coated side of deflector against inner I panel Insert lower edge of deflector in retaining slot Then firmly roll or press sealed areas to I obtain a good bond between deflector and door inner panel NOTE If old sealer does not give a satisfactory veal apply a bead of body caulking comr pound approximately 3 16 diameter at unseale d areas
